LOCATION
The Rio Azul Lodge is located in the Futaleufu Valley in the Patagonia Region
of Southern Chile. The surrounding mountains, hardwood forrests, and river valleys provide the setting for your stay. The first and only dirt road which provides access to this area was completed in 1983. The local farmers still cut hay with scythes, shear sheep by hand, and haul wood with oxen. Superb fishing aside, the pristine environment and unmatched beauty of the rivers and mountains are enough reason to visit this part of the world.
The Futaleufu Valley was settled some seventy years ago by people migrating through Argentina from the North of Chile. These people were effectively cut off from the rest of Chile until the completion of the road in the early eighties. Since then the valley has seen an increase in tourism mainly due to the Rio Futaleufu and its sections of world class whitewater.

Every summer kayakers from around the world travel to this little valley to run the class 4 and 5 rapids which dominate the river. We have found the more tranquil sections of the river to be superb as trout fisheries and rarely if ever see boaters on these stretches.
