THE FISHING
Fisheries:
We enjoy the luxury of having an enormous amount of resources available to us from a fisheries standpoint. Rivers both of large and small volume are abundant in our region as are the creek, lagoon, and lake fishing possibilities. Which fisheries we take advantage of in any given week is determined by the preferences of our anglers.
Techniques:
Our primary mode of fishing is from the raft; however we do spend much of our time wade fishing depending on conditions and angler preference. We fish from self bailing rafts equipped with fishing frames which provide optimal comfort to the angler. Because much of our river access is not readily availible by vehicle we are unable to use drift boats in our area. It is often necessary for your guides to carry the boats to and from the river or to use oxcarts as boat transport.
The majority of our fishing is done with floating lines using large dries and streamer patterns. Because of a lack of aquatic insects in our rivers the fish tend to look up in the water column for their food rather than looking down for nymphs. For this reason using a floating line rather than a sink tip is often much more effective.
The available food sources for these fish are primarily terrestrial insects, such as beetles, and of coarse other fish. Sight fishing to rising rainbows and presenting baitfish imitations to large browns are our most often used methods. It is my experience that most fly anglers shy away from streamer fishing however the technique we use always allows the angler to see the fly and watch the fish move to the fly. It is not unlike dry fly fishing in this respect.
